Youth M-Fuge Experience

M-Fuge Mission Camp
July 20th – 25th
Samford University
Birmingham, AL

Fifteen youth and four adults attended M-Fuge Camp at Samford University in Birmingham. Our group had the opportunity to participate in several different areas of ministry in the Birmingham area. They also experienced amazing bible studies and worship experiences throughout the week. Here are some thoughts about their week at M-Fuge.

Kristen Ellis – (Social Ministry)
“The Lord blessed me with a powerful week at M-Fuge. Being able to work for Him through ministry in Montevallo, where my track group spent the week, was an amazing experience. Just seeing the look of joy on the kids and senior citizen’s faces when we walked through the door opened my eyes to what a wonderful God we have and I’m glad I could be a part of something so special. Being with fellow Christians all week and sharing God’s love with the people of Montevallo has been a life changing experience that I know I will never forget!”

Carolyn Byrd – (Social Ministry)
“I had fun. I made new friends. I hung out with kids and got to teach them. I got to help out and come closer to the Lord.”

Kristin Collins – (Social Ministry)
“We went to Montevallo. I liked working with the kids. They were so awesome. I am really glad that I went to M-Fuge. I had so much fun. I had fun with all my friends and had fun learning about God. I think I have grown a lot closer to God this week. I learned so much this week and learned that you need a lot of sleep.”

Dylan Johnson – (Creative Ministry)
“I had a lot of fun hanging out with people at nursing homes and learning all the many things the people shared with us.”

Patrick O’Connor – (Creative Ministry)
“I went to 7 nursing homes and 1 park singing songs, dancing, playing Red Rover and Praising the Lord! I’ve really enjoyed the week learning how I can use my faith to MOVE. Learning how to have faith to let go, take a stand, to take a risk, and to wait are what I’ve taken to heart this week.”

Bill Flowers – (Creative Ministry)
“I spent my week at various nursing homes and rehabilitation hospitals. I enjoyed seeing the young people open up more as the week progressed and connect with our elders. The blessings could be seen in the eyes and faces of the patients and heard in their voices.”

Abby O’Connor – (Games & Recreation Ministry)
I spent most of my time at the (Northeast YMCA) with the cutest kids I have ever seen. Some of them would come up and hug you. They played with our hair and the teachers treated us like their own. I felt very loved.”

Taylor Massey - (Games & Recreation Ministry)
“One of the kids that Misti (our church host) told us of prior to going out to (Northeast YMCA) was named Lageorge. Lageorge witnessed his brother get strangled to death. I believe that all of us who spent time with him were touched in some way.”

Kelsey McGuire – (Social Ministry)
“I worked with campers at the Stars Tech Summer Camp 2009 (Center for Urban Missions) I was in the kindergarten class some of the time. At other times, I helped our track leader Jonny film the children speaking about the book that each of them wrote. The first day, we came up with and taught the children motions to their theme song. Overall, it was a really great experience and I felt like I was making a difference and closer to God.”

Nikki Flowers – (Social Ministry)
“I enjoyed all the bible studies with the most awesome track leader ever, Jonny!”

Greg O’Connor – (Social Ministry)
“At the onset, kids were wide eyed, awed and appeared apprehensive. During the week these same kids became bold and each became leaders in their own right. The emotion of worship was unbelievable. Truly heartfelt professions of faith were obvious. I was heartbroken over the cards we read Friday morning.”

Meagan Thomas – (Social Ministry)
“I had a great time at M-Fuge working in the social track. We served at a homeless shelter, a nursing home, medical apartments, and a soup kitchen. Each conversation I had opened my eyes to how blessed I really am and gave me satisfaction in helping others. There is always a way to help…just listen and MOVE.”

Hayley Bodiford – (Social Ministry)
“I really enjoyed M-Fuge this week. I was in the social track and we went to Pathway, a women’s homeless shelter. These ladies really inspired me on how they still loved and thanked God even under the conditions they were in. They taught me a great lesson and I hope I can go back next year.”

Ivy Watts – (Children’s Ministry)
“I really enjoyed Birmingham M-Fuge. The worship time each day was INCREDIBLE and I enjoyed the quite time bible studies. This week I served in the children’s ministry track. All of the kids we worked with really appreciated us spending time playing with them and sharing God’s word. One of the young girls we worked with told me she loved us so much and didn’t want us to leave. I thank God for leading us to these children to share His word and show them that we do love them. I also thank God for giving me the opportunity to attend M-Fuge to come closer to Him and serve to the children of Birmingham.”
Chelsea Gilmore – (Children’s Ministry)
“I enjoyed playing with all of the kids we went to see!”

Kimberly Langley – (Children’s Ministry)
Wow what a week! It was wonderful to see all our youth step forward and do a fantastic job working in their track groups. The adult bible studies and worship services were amazing! M-Fuge was a great tool to help our youth grow closer to God by studying His word and by experiencing firsthand what it means to be a true servant.”

Jeremiah Johnson – (Social Ministry)
“I worked at the Love Lady Center and the lady told us about how she got on drugs and how she got off of them. It was a good story and it touched me.”

Laurren Wood – (Social Ministry)
I really enjoyed worshiping God in such a great environment while at M-Fuge! I served the Lord by helping out with babies at Lady Love, a wonderful place where women can turn their life around. I loved talking to the elderly at the nursing home, it’s a good feeling to know you can make a difference!”

Kim O’Connor – (Social Ministry)
“I received huge blessings this week from working at the drug rehabilitation center for women and taking care of their babies and hearing the stories of some of the residents. I grew really close to the people in my track. We also visited several nursing homes and helped around the facilities cleaning out storage rooms and meeting and visiting with the residents. My favorite thing was the excitement of our kids while sharing about their experiences.”
